This team flat out hustles, but not for the full 40 minutes, yet. On a couple of occaasions I saw Barry Brown camping out on the wing waiting for a pass instead of completing the motion swing or cutting to make a screen and Erwin seems to be trying to catch up with himself a lot. But they are showing much better signs than most freshman (that are not NBA prospects).
The bigs are getting in position, not swatting at balls but making shots difficult by moving their feet to the right spots on the floor, and when they do get the ball they are NOT dribbling in the lane like has been an epidemic in years past.
There seems to be a real chemistry with this team to finish the play, find the open guy and get the ball there. There is also a fiesty determination to steal balls and get loose ones. This is the kind of team that can cause some real trouble in the conference for the 5 currently ranked schools.
Teams like Oklahoma and West Virginia that run a tough press and defense will be very difficult for our young guards, but the other teams may be surprised with our athleticism like KU and Baylor. We will likely have a lot of games like Coppin State at home where we play down to the competition a little and on the road where we have some real nail biters. Weber has this team ready to compete and it's really amazing to have a brand new roster and look so solid. You can hate Bruce if you want, but if this team can get 20 wins, he will be the conference Coach of the Year. This team can get 20 wins. That North Carolina game is in this team's head. They won't let the next one slip away.
Budke is doing yeoman's work, in over his head and fighting ever fighting but giving Hurt and Wade valuable rest.
The crowds are mildly disappointing, but continued success will bring them in.
Not playing Sandstorm at the games any more is understandable, but it sure is a buzz kill. That song really used to get the crowd going.
Bruce shouldn't wear a gray jacket and brown pants on tv.
This year's Willie mascot is boring.
Go Cats!
