As I sit here watching yet another blowout (Stanford up 38-0) I decided to tally all this year's bowl games. The average winner had 39.2 points and the average loser had 23 points. That is a 16 point difference! I'm too lazy to do this for past years, but it seems that this year is particularly bad. My best guess is that bowl committees are more interested in making $$$ than is sponsoring a competitive matchup.
The best example of this is our game, picking the third best team in the SEC east to play the seventh best team in the Big 12. A more competitive matchup would have Auburn who went 6-6 and was sixth in the SEC east.
