I hadn't thought about this until I read it in a Sports Illustrated article questioning the value of conference championship games after Ohio State got in the CFP. You can verify this by checking the CFP final rankings -- the Big 12 is the only P5 conference whose 2 best teams in the final CFP rankings played each other on conference championship game weekend! Just think about that. Even going into the games Saturday only the Pac 12 in addition to the Big 12 had their 2 top-ranked teams scheduled to play. Then after Colorado was beaten by Washington USC passed them in the final rankings.
Add to that the fact that both had already played everyone else in the conference. But we don't have a true champion!!
