Finally getting to watch the replay of the game and I had a couple things I wanted to post.
It did look like Hubener's elbow was hit by Frantz right before he threw
but a few people have been saying that Hubener had an open WR. This couldn't be more false. Here is a still picture of the ball in the air. The safety who intercepts the pass was deep over the top of both WR's. In this picture he is already breaking on the ball.
The top picture is a microcosm of what's wrong with our passing game. We keep 7 guys in to block while Stanford only brings 5. That leaves the defense with 6 guys to cover 3 receivers. That ball had no business being thrown.
On to a positive note, the Ertz to Zuber TD was absolutely gorgeous. Here is a screenshot right after Ertz releases the pass
Zuber is on the 10 yard line when Ertz lets it go. He covered 20 freaking yards while the ball was in the air. The touch, anticipation, and timing from Ertz is absolutely incredible here, and it's only matched by Zuber's ball tracking skils and catching ability.
Ertz made another throw that was impressive on that drive. His 3rd and 3 pass to Heath required a perfect pass as he was well covered.
Something that caught my attention is that 2 of Ertz's best passes came on a 4th down (and the one to Heath on 3rd down) late in the game. That makes me think that he may have been a little gunshy throughout the game and worried about turning the ball over. When he was able to turn it loose he looked much better and that gives me confidence he's going to look much better as he gains experience.
