I don't get all the Huebner love this board heaps on him (well a bit I do with the whole obsession this board has of small town Kansas kid walk on but that's for another post). Also before I start I want to state that in no way is this supposed to be a bash the kid to death post either.
Joe is seemingly a nice kid and a serviceable backup but at best the kid is the 9th best qb in the big 12 and that's being kind. I know some will point to numbers and stats saying he's better than some others but a lot of it is system. I would take 8 other Big 12 qbs right now for sure to have 3/4 years of learning under LHCBS and I would strongly consider taking the other one as well.
Joe is who he is. A decent backup who tries hard and gives his all. There is nothing wrong with that but that doesn't make him "special" or give him the "potential to be special" it doesn't even make him good...and that's OK.
Posters that seem to give him too much love tend to often point out our receivers drops and there are way too many. But those same posters say he was nails in OT but don't account for all the remarkable catches his wide outs made or the dropped snap etc. Joe isn't great he doesn't have the potential to be great and he won't ever be anything more than moderate to decent (which he still has to work his way up to as of now).
I guess all I'm saying is quit lumping unheralded praise onto the kid. There is a reason he was a walk on, there is a reason he was a backup and there is a reason this was only his second ever start at qb and they're all the same reason, the kid isn't a big 12 caliber starting qb. It'll only make it worse when we falter through what will be a very tough big 12 schedule. Just be realistic because he deserves our cheers but he also doesn't deserve undue praise and pressure of something he isn't and won't ever be.
