K-State needs a win this Saturday for obvious reasons.
First and foremost to keep their bleak NCAA hopes alive (not to mention the NIT).
Even with a win over Texas, K-State will likely still need to win the Big 12 tourney to get their dance card punched.
Winning the Big 12 tourney is much more do-able with a first round bye.
Motivation should not be an issue for obvious reasons, but keep in mind, three of K-State starters are from Texas (assuming Foster, Gipson, & Iwundu start). Even if their wasn't much on the line; Gip, Foster, & Iwundu would be fired up to play Texas.
Texas of course is playing for their NCAA tourney lives as well. In fact, if Texas does not win on Saturday, they will likely need to win the Big 12 tourney to make the tourney (hard to get into the NCAA tourney with a 7 & 11 conference record).
And like K-State, without the first round bye, I don't see Texas winning 4 games in 4 days.
Both teams have had extra time off this week (K-State no game, while Texas played on Monday).
Just a huge game for K-State ( & Texas).
One team is going to have their NCAA hopes all but completely destroyed on Saturday.
