I started to post this at the end of the previous string but thought it was worth another thread...
My son and I pulled up in the lot this morning by the new addition at the arena. I look through the glass, from our car, and say, 'hey, isn't that Weber?' Is it a little sad that I could tell it was him from 40 yards away? He was on the phone when we went in so I didn't get a chance to say 'hi' but we was the first coach we saw today.
It seems like more coaches this year than last; I wonder if the fact that it was pushed back a week might have helped that.
2nd coach I "saw"...Steve Henson. Went over and talked to him, took a quick pic with him to send to my wife (who was a Bullpup @ Mac with Steve) but didn't linger. He and Doc Sadler (now HC @ Southern Miss) chatted for quite a bit between the 1st two games.
Best big guy I saw today: Bruce Stevens from Jones County Mississippi. 6'8", strong, solid, physical specimen, understands his game. 24 points in 19 min (they play 12 guys and it looks like hockey line shifts at time), shot 7-14, 2 -3 from 3, 8-8 FT's and 8 rebounds. Body like Tony Massup (old Wildcat reference) but a much better shot. Great touch. Mostly mid-major offers so far (LaTech, Ark State) with some P5 looks coming from Missouri (maybe), Pitt and Ole Miss.
Apparently Self has been down watching someone from the Hutch team (not sure of the name) and the Dragons have one headed to WSU already. Will not see them play till Wednesday at Noon.
Did not see the guy go off for 40 since my son had to go back to Manhattan to work the girl's game. Saw the 2nd half of Game 1 and Avery carried Conners back to win that game. Great on the drive, good passer, rebounded well, don't recall him hitting a 3 (or even taking one); similar recruiting profile as Stevens (above) but at least we are on his list (can't tell if the interest is from him or us though).
Will see if anyone catches my eye tomorrow or Wednesday (both coaches and players).
