that seems to be a thought process by some on this board......just doesn't make any sense, no matter how you look at it.
Let's just say for argument sake Weber misses the tournament this year (which I think is the bare minimum Weber needs to do to keep his job) Let's look at the possible reasons given why Currie would bring him back:
1. Money? No....Bruce's buyout is 2.5 million....but that is reduced is he takes another job(HC or Assistant, College or Pro) within 24 months of being fired...it is then reduced "dollar for dollar" by the amount of his new contract.....So at Worst case it's the the full 2.5 million. Also, take in to account the Bump in revenue a new coach would bring in over the loss of bringing Bruce back and the fact that Bruce is due a $500,000 retention bonus if he's still here in 2019. I call the money a wash.
2. Currie Ego? No....A new coaching hire essentially allows Currie to hit the reset button with fans and media.....And with the right hire, the Weber hire will be a distant memory by the Opening press conference.
3. Currie Legacy? No....Currie needs a Big hire if he is actually looking for another AD job....and even if he's not, there's absolutely no reason to stick by Bruce for another mediocre season.....another season with no NCAA Tournament appearance would be a negative on his legacy.
4. Loyalty to Bruce? No....this was an unpopular hire to begin with....there would be ZERO backlash from anyone if Weber is fired.
The bottom line is Currie's fund raising ability is cemented & it appears he's made some good hires in the nonrevenue sports(Mittie).......now he needs a Good hire in Men's Basketball or Football. He has the Money, Donor & Fan Support to make a move this year.
I just don't see the counter argument at all.
