women's basketball and I'm not a big fan of women's basketball, but as the case with any sport, I become more interested when your favorite team (the CATS in this case) is doing well.
It's kind of like the Royals...they've always been my favorite team but until the past 3 or 4 years (and since the early 90s) I didn't get excited about the Royals or baseball in general, because my team sucked...ha.
Did I still go to a game or two or three each year, even when the Royals sucked? Yes
Did I still watch the Royals on TV when they sucked? Yes
But I had absolutely zero excitement about the Royals.... I certainly did not plan my evening or weekend around watching a Royals game when they sucked.
I'm not talking about being a fair weather fan, It's not that I don't always cheer for my favorite team, but when your favorite team is doing well, naturally fans become more excited.
Well I have to admit, I'm just as excited (perhaps more) about the women's game with UConn this weekend than I am about the mens' game with Washington State.
I know it's unlikely, but it would be absolutely awesome if the Lady CATS were to end UConn's 83 game winning streak. The schedule works in K-State's favor... UConn is coming off their biggest win of the year on the road against ND. The game was a sell-out (9,149). I would be willing to bet that the UConn ladies were talking about beating #1/ #2 ND well into Friday before jumping on a plane today.
Sold-out Bramlage will be loudest crowd UConn has faced this year.
Coming off huge win + UConn crushed K-State last season + K-State is unranked = I just don't see the UConn ladies getting fired up & focused to play K-State.
Maybe the better players will win out -OR- maybe a highly motivated & focused group of hungry CATS will shock the women's basketball world this Sunday.
GO LADY CATS !!
