TCU was the best defense that KSU is & was going to see all year & they shut KSU down. Outside of the OSU game, there isn’t a game that KSU can not & probably should not win. They have home games against the two best teams they face in ISU & WVU & play TTech and KU on the road. If (and that is a significantly big if) the offense can play against these 4 teams like they did Saturday against OU, then they should win the games.
However, which defense is going to show up? The defense that played against TCU or the defense that played against UT & OU? I’m sorry, but Kirby & Newlan are just flat out bad. I stopped counting how many times that Kirby was faked out by anyone that he could’ve tackled. He should be completely EMBARRASSED when he watches film on the OU game. There wasn’t much that he did right. There is a reason that Kirby originally committed to KU until KSU offered him a scholarship. He is not good.
Newlan? He’s just not a D-1 caliber player & shouldn’t be playing on the field unless it is for kickoff coverage. KSU needs Kendall Adams & Cre Moore to get healthy & quick so that we don’t have to see Newlan on the field again.
But back to the rest of the season. Delton played well against OU, but that was because the coaches put him in position to make plays. Outside of the WTF call on the interception (that never should’ve been called) the coaches did a pretty good job of play calling for him. It reminded me of the KSU/USC game from 2002 with Ell. They had 3 step drops, throwing outside the pocket & very high percentage throws for him.
If the team can block for Delton & Barnes the way that they did against OU, then KSU should be able to put up 30+ points in each of the games. Delton & Barnes remind me of Roberson & Sproles from 2002. I’m not saying that they’re that good, but just that the opposing teams will have to try to account for Delton and/or Barnes & that should be very positive for KSU.
