Took my kids to their first bowl game yesterday and was disturbed to see such poor tackling technique by KSU. I know RB 3 and TE 83 were big players, but it seemed like Davis, Lee, Jackson, Burns and others wanted no part of tackling those guys (and others).
I coach defense on my son's pop warner team and my 10-year even said during the game, "Dad, why are they tackling so high?"
I've seen the Cats tackle poorly on TV all year, but it's much more noticeable live and in person. That goes back to poor coaching.
I hope Brent Venables comes to KSU for several reasons, but serving as the new DC tops my list. The teams they played on weren't good, but Venables, Brooks Barta and Laird Veatch could tackle. With the wide open Big 12 offenses, tackling one on one in space is huge and that's an area that needs vast improvement.
For once I would like to see a CB be in position to actually make a play on the ball, jump a route and get a pick 6. And Venables sure as hell wouldn't allow Arkansas to run a play action bootleg pass to a wide open TE seven times before it's stopped. It's like nobody even wanted to cover the TE and then tackle him after he made the catch.
