I'm calling BS on the "don't have the players" excuse

I watched a lot of football this weekend. Good teams, great teams and bad teams.

Almost no one gave the 10 yard cushion our DBs give. Those that did had the same results we do--WRs with that cushion run open. Teams that played press and run were much more successful. It didn't matter the relative skill levels: Even DBs running a couple yards behind a WR make it tougher for a QB to locate a target and time their throws.

Yes, some QBs can and do drop passes over the DB and hit the WR in the hands. But their success rate is less than half of the QB that has a WR standing 15 yds downfield with no one within 5 yard of him.

I'm saying that anyone (fans or Hayes) that believes our DBs can't cover on press and run are making excuses for bad coaching. Instead of clinging to outdated strategies, learn to adapt to today's realities. Learn to teach a system that works in today's game.
