But damn, this team just isn't getting any better. You can make a case that they're getting worse. I can't remember the last time that I was as frustrated with a loss as this one. Maybe the Vandy game? This team just isn't a well coached team. Klieman said it himself, that on Hall's long TD run that they had two guys basically run in to each other. How does that happen this far in to the season? KSU had ISU at a 3rd & 12, but then were penalized for too many men on the field. Are you kidding me? Again, how does that happen this late in the year?
Dropped passes, missed extra point, missed FG, penalties. It really seemed like anything and everything that could go wrong was going too.
I get it, KSU has faced probably the three best teams in the conference the first three games, but they were blown out in two of them & really were never a threat to beat OU because the defense can't stop anyone. Without going back and looking at the stats, I'm pretty sure that KSU only forced OU & ISU in to four & three incompletions. They're getting zero pressure on the QB's & the DB's are making it too easy for the receivers to get open. McPherson is a shell of the player he was two years ago & even last year before he got hurt.
I would like to know what Messingham was thinking with some of the play calls. Twice they ran the option with an injured QB & once to the short side of the field. With the time running out in the 4th quarter and KSU still huddling up, was he just trying to use up as much time as possible knowing that the defense won't stop ISU? If that was his logic, then I ok.
I didn't think that KSU would beat ISU. In fact in the pole, I said that KSU would lost by at least 11 points. But the frustration(s) that I have is the lack of discipline, and that KSU could look that bad at home when they have the biggest & most important recruits on campus for a game.
Just like everyone else, I want Klieman to be successful, but there is no way that this will happen with this current staff & I hope that he now realizes it. Klein, Stanard, Klanderman, Ray & maybe Messingham need to all be replaced. I could stomach Messingham staying around because I do like his game plans that he's come up with. But his position now that he's coaching (WR's) are not getting any better at all.
I really thought that this team could challenge for 9 wins this year. Then when Skylar went down I changed that to 8. Now I'm thinking that hopefully they can get to 6-6 with wins against KU, TTech and either TCU, Baylor or West Virginia. Getting to 6 wins (I think) would be huge for this program with the added practices & hopefully showing recruits that they are improving.
