It doesn't matter anymore.
Regardless of what Ned Seaton wrote in the Manhattan Mercury early this week, regardless of what Coach Snyder's friend Jim Colbert may feel, regardless of how hard it is for some to accept, it is over. The time for Snyder to announce is either immediately after the game or no later than Monday's teleconference call.
I am sadden but expected this would happen. I do not believe KSU will beat KU this afternoon. Watched parts of the first half. KSU team is no good. KU knows that. KU at least knows Beatty is out. Some of our people, VERY few, are still hanging on for hope. It is over. Unless for a failure on KU's part in the second half or we get a significant play, we are going to lose this game. Period.
All I can say is thank you to the Snyder family for the fun years that we had. But it is over. The team needs to be renewed and rebuilt. The new coach, whoever it is, will take at least 3 years of bumps and bruises. Likely be non bowl eligible for at least 3 straight years due to current roster, soon to be attrition (and KU will experience same thing) and new coach. It was fun while it lasted.
I hope KSU gets the right coach who can at least help us gain bowl eligibility every now and then. I know some want more but for right now, important to rebuild system.
Nice that we as a school have played in 21 bowls, but of course, 19 of those were by Snyder. But the University has to realize that we have to mirror the basketball program in the sense of mindset when it comes to coaches. KSU NEEDS TO TRUST other coaches with the football program, even if it means not winning for awhile. The basketball program had some losing but at least, the basketball program won with Gardner, Winter, Fitzsimmons, Hartman, Kruger, Altman, Huggins, Martin and now, Weber.
For those KSU fans and alum who just don't understand, we have to get away from "small town" thinking and trust someone else, even if it is a NON-KSU graduate with the football program or someone you desperately want for the program but doesn't want to come to (or back) Manhattan.
KSU CAN WIN again. Yes, maybe not the way it won in the 90s and highly doubt that because athletes today are particular and some, especially athletes of color, like to stay in areas where there are heavy populations of their color i.e. southeast part of the country or the South. But KSU can win enough again to get bowl eligible every now and then and that is what I believe we can someday become..
It is unfortunate the program has slipped back. It is unfortunate the Snyder family struggled to let go and now, will go down, as failures -- although the legacy will be remembered by extreme highs and extreme lows (this being one for the second time). But life moves on, KSU will move on, and all we can hope for now is a coach who can "calm the waters", bring us back some respectability (even if it means 6,7 or 8,9 wins seasons). As I said earlier, today's athletes are particular when it comes to schools and locations. Therefore, we need a coach who can at least keep us functional. Some of you need to understand this. I'm not a Ned Seaton supporter at all, just so you know. I'm not a fan that wanted Snyder to stay. Tbh, I think all of you who have read what I've written in the past stating Snyder needed to go 3-5 years ago or this was going to happen. It happened. Now let's get behind the next coach. And be patient, it is going to take a lot of time unfortunately.
