a mega contract extension that made him one of the five highest paid college football coaches.
$34.3 Million over 6 years.... WOW.
Ron Prince has to be a tad jealous...ha.
Franklin did some good things at Vanderbilt and became the second head coach at Penn State post the Paterno disaster.
After two 7 & 6 seasons, Penn State went 11 & 3 last season.
Penn State caught Ohio State at a good time. The Buckeyes were coming off an emotional over-time road win against Wisky .... and probably took Penn State a little lightly (prior to the game, Penn State was 4 & 2 and needed overtime to beat Minnesota at home and had got hammered by Michigan).
It was the biggest game at Penn State in years.
Penn State's second biggest win last season was against Wisky in the Big 10 Championship game, the Nittany Lions won 38 to 31 (though, Wisky did not have their starting QB for the game).
Penn State lost in a shoot out against USC in the Rose Bowl.
It will be interesting to see if this is a case of an Athletic Director jumping the gun and giving a coach a huge contract based on one very good season ....and in 3 years, the alumni don't like what they see and want a change...ha.
Or in 3 years, will the alumni be very pleased that the AD made a move to lock-up a relatively young coach that is on his way to becoming a great coach ??
I like Franklin and wish him well... like I said, it will be interesting to see how the next 3 or 4 years play out in Happy Valley.
GO STATE !!
