I should have a story going up today with a little more depth about these final weeks in recruiting from a scholarship standpoint, but I wanted to touch base on a few greyshirt/walk-on candidates that have been popular names for in-state posters on the board. Obviously the final contact period just opened today so this is subject to change, but this is what I know about Christian Jegen (Mill Valley) and Tucker Horak (Rossville) as of last night.

JEGEN: The Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year for 2015 went on an official to Northern Iowa not long ago and came away extremely impressed by all accounts. This weekend he's headed to North Dakota State for an official there and then he'll finish January with a visit to Iowa. As for K-State, still nothing new from the Wildcats.

According to one source, had the Wildcats made greater effort (whether that be a scholarship or just expressed more interest - I'm not sure), it's likely Jegen could be off the market. But now it sounds like the family is getting anxious and "can't wait around on maybes".

I'll be interested to see what happens when Jegen sees Iowa City and the Hawkeyes, but for now it sounds like UNI has the upper hand here.

HORAK: I'm going to have to correct myself from a tweet posted during Monday's championship game. During the Alabama win, a reference was made about the Renfro kid at Clemson and how maybe someone should give Horak the same opportunity. Originally, I had been informed that a spot at K-State had been offered in some form or fashion to Horak a while back (preferred walk-on, regular walk-on, something). Apparently that information was incorrect.

Speaking with Tucker yesterday, he says K-State has not contacted him at all. KU began showing some interest before the dead period began in December, but other than that he only holds offers from NAIA and MIAA schools.

Similar in size and style to Curry Sexton, it's a little surprising that K-State has shown such little interest- especially considering Horak is the first player ever to pass and rush for 2,000 yards. Good chance it might be that he doesn't really have a position, but that hasn't held the Wildcats back in the past.
