and realized the Cyclones made another critical mistake I was not previously aware of that contributed to the turnaround. On their possession prior to the one they fumbled on with the score 35-28 they took over on downs with 5:08 left. The clock started with the snap on 1st down and they picked up just enough for a new 1st down, stopping the clock at 5:00 to set the chains. Then the clock starts after setting the chains and they snap it again at 4:42 which would have been with 0:22 seconds left on the play clock. Then on 2nd down they realized they should be running clock by letting the play clock run down and began snapping the ball with only 2-3 seconds left. If they would have let the play clock run down on that 1st down play there would have been about 18-19 seconds less when they took over at 1:31. If there was only about 1:13 left when they took over instead of 1:31 they probably would have gone to victory formation instead of running a play.
I guess I already knew we were lucky to win that game so this is probably not really news, but it was really a perfect storm.
