Today was the 50th anniversary of the Fiesta Bowl. The Arizona Republic newspaper has been running articles relating to past contests and recently named the top 50 players in the past 50 years. Two of the fifty were Wildcats: Michael Bishop and Darnell McDonald. Today they listed their top 50 moments from the bowl games and again K-State was mentioned twice: "1997 Kansas State brings 45,000 fans against Syracuse" and "1967 Darnell McDonald catches Bowl record 206 yards." There is also a Wildcat connection to the Iowa State vs Oregon game today. Both quarterbacks, Brock Purdy of Iowa State and Tyler Shough of Oregon went to high school in the Phoenix area, are good friends, and have as their personal quarterbacks coach, Dan Manucci, who quarterbacked the Wildcats for two years. He graduated in 1979 and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round and where he played 1979-80. Eventually Dan returned to his home in Phoenix and now is a sportscaster on radio and runs a very successful camp for aspiring high school quarterbacks.
