Injuries were a huge problem in 1975 like this season. Unfortunately, the injuries all occurred at the quarterback position. We went through 7 starting quarterbacks. In the first Big 8 game we lost to Iowa State 17-7. The number 1 quarterback for the season Joe Hatcher could hardly walk. He was injured the following game. The Cats scored 23 points while going 0-7 in league play.

The previous season with a ton of injuries was 1954. Head Coach Bill Meek told me he had 6 or 7 starters out in the season finale against Colorado. The Cats entered the game 7-2. If K-State won the game they were Orange Bowl bound. They lost 38-17. Let your imagination run wild on what might have been if K-State ended the regular season 8-2 with the Orange Bowl coming up.
