Kansas State freshman point guard Kamau Stokes is still questionable for Wednesday night's game at Kansas and his coach is taking a wait-and-see approach before ruling him out for any future contests.
Stokes, who has started 20 of 21 games at point guard this season, injured his right knee in the first half of the Wildcats' 69-64 win against Ole Miss this past Saturday. He had an MRI on Sunday and was evaluated by doctors on Monday.
"He will continue to have the doctors look at him and kind of decide which way we go with it," Bruce Weber said on Tuesday. "He doesn't have a whole lot of pain, but he is a little weak in the knee. We will see what happens."
Weber said there was no major structural damage, but would not comment on the exact extent of the injury. Stokes, who averages 9.4 points and 2.7 assists, was seen walking at the Ice Family Basketball Center with a brace on in addition to an Instagram post stating "I'll be okay!!"
"It's not like an ACL or anything, but it's a little baffling, to be honest," Weber said. "It's just a weird thing with his knee."
As for a timetable for return, Weber did not indicate when one of his top players will come back, if at all this season.
"It could be (long term). It could be," Weber said. "We'll just see and hope for the best."
Carlbe Ervin, a junior college transfer, is expected to make his second career start against the Jayhawks, while Weber also said it will be point guard by committee for the Wildcats moving forward.
