Kansas State vs. Stephen F. Austin: Thoughts and Analysis

1st Quarter: Kansas State 21, SFA 15

-Ranke’s instant offense is going to be a welcomed sight this season.

-Rough first few plays for Williams (missed layup, foul) but picks up a great assist.

-Shaelyn Martin takes a charge, the first of many for her this season.

-Both teams shooting 3-for-7 (42%) from the field at the 4:48 mark of the 1st Quarter.

-Great end of the quarter for the Wildcats, forcing five turnovers in the 3:30 stretch.

-Kansas State ends the quarter hitting three straight shots.

2nd Quarter: Kansas State 37, SFA 28

-Shaelyn Martin charge count: 2

-Very impressed with the Wildcats on the defensive end, SFA shots have not been easy to come by.

-SFA went 1-10 from the from the field at one point.

-Kansas State did a great job on both ends of the floor to end the half, a big thing for them after struggling the first few minutes of the ballgame.

-SFA ends the first half shooting 1-12 from the field and no baskets in the last 3:08.

-Stat of the half: Kansas State 46%, SFA 28%

3rd Quarter: Kansas State 58, SFA 37

-The Wildcats start off a bit rough (missed shots, turnovers) but SFA can’t take advantage.

-Cymone Goodrich goes down with a shoulder injury midway through the quarter, was taken to the locker room for further observation.

-Shooting woes continue for both teams, and as soon as I say that I see Kaylee Page knock down a three. Cause of course right?

-Kaylee Page having a monster game with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting so far in the 3rd.

4th Quarter: Kansas State 74, SFA 49

-One of the games biggest storylines was the poor shooting from SFA, partly due to the Wildcats playing great defense and also, the open shots that SFA did get, they just weren’t falling.

-All in all, it was a solid performance for Kansas State’s first game of the 2017 season. You got to see a little bit of everything for Kansas State. I was happy to see the defense lock down and really put the SFA offense in slow motion.

(Will add in news of Goodrich injury if there are any updates in the postgame presser)
