While Kevin was explaining that out side of ku, the Big 12 is basically not very good, which I don't totally disagree with... but in his praise for ku, he said that Texas Tech just feel apart and were not for real.
Of course I'm not a Red Raider fan and I'm so happy that Pretty Boy got another year, but I have to take exception to Kietzman's take on Texas Tech.
Texas Tech simply had bad luck.
Their best player and floor general Keena Evans got a bum toe and was not near 100%.
In their first of four consecutive losses, Keena Evans sit out the entire second half of their game against Baylor. Texas Tech lost by 2 points and the refs swallowed their whistle on some Baylor fouls late in the game. Evans shipped in 4 points in the first half on a bum toe.
Against Okie State, Keena Evans played half the game but he was not even 70%. Plus OkieState has had a knack at knocking off the best teams in the league this year. TT lost by 8.
TT loses by 2 points against ku. Keena Evans played but was probably about 60%, chipped in 6 points (4 from the charity stripe). I believe strongly with a healthy Keena Evans, TT would have beaten KU. How about flipping the script, had Graham been about 60% and Evans been 100%, TT probably wins by 20.
TT got hammered by WV, but Evans did not play and the Red Raiders were super down after losing to ku. WV won by 10.
Simply put, had Evans not have been injured, TT wins the Big 12 this year.
Just another series of breaks that has helped ku keep their streak alive.
Even the year that K-State tied for the Big 12 crown with ku.... Iowa State got seriously screwed by the refs in both games against ku. Had Iowa State not been screwed in one of their games with ku, the birds' Big 12 streak would have been over.
Some years, ku has clearly been the best team, but some years they just seem to get break after break.
ku got to play OU without Blake Griffin many years ago...etc..etc..etc..
