Could K-State potentially pay its football coach less than its basketball coach?

Klieman currently makes about $3.5 million and will make around $4.3 by the end of his current contract, which ends in 2026.

Underwood makes around $4.1 million and will make around $4.5 million by the end of his contract, which ends around the same time as Klieman’s.

Under the current conditions, if Underwood comes to KState, he will either make more than Klieman, take a pay decrease or Klieman will get a raise. Each sounds unlikely, but I suppose it’s possible that Underwood would take a hometown discount.

Outside of basketball blue bloods, it sounds like an odd concept for the basketball coach to make more than the football coach.
