Thought I might try to generate some conversation about our conference opener today at the Bram against the Mountaineers.
Tip is less than 6 hours! I'll link Brett's pregame article here when it posts. Until then...
This will likely be the second toughest (maybe the toughest) game WVU will have played this year. Their schedule is fairly pedestrian and it appears as if our schedule has been the more challenging of the two.
If the officials call the game honestly and by the book, we win this one easily.
But here is what it comes down to for me... This team can run and can do it effectively. And even more importantly? Bruce is letting - and even encouraging - them do it. That is the key. Get the ball in quick, get out and run, and finish with athleticism at the basket. We cannot play slow and let them set up defensively full court.
We had success last year with inferior guards when we pushed it. When we asked our PGs to slow it down and walk it up, the results were disastrous. Unforced turnover after unforced turnover (I guess they were forced but it doesn't feel that when it is a five count or throwing the ball out of bounds).
Push the ball, hit free throws, play good solid team D and finish defensive possessions with rebounds after the first shot. No second chance scramble opportunities from three.
