I thought this game was very similar to the Stanford game last year. We had absolutely no identity as to what we do well.
Last year it took awhile to figure out what we were good at. I was amazed at how well we ran the ball and that pretty much accounted for our success last season. That is what we hung our hat on.
Against Vandy, I was shocked at how poorly Barnes ran the ball. He seemed to just run right into the heart of the defense rather than trying to cut up field into the opening. Ertz running the ball cannot be our identity. He has to get his yards when they are keying on everyone else.
I thought our passing game could carry the team, but when you drop as many passes as we did, we couldn't hang our hat on our passing game either.
We were completely without an identity against Vandy on offense. I think that's why we panicked like we did in the 4th quarter. So is this team going to be able to run the ball like it did last year. Can the pass carry us on offense? Back in the early years it was the passing game that carried us.
One of the things that Snyder is a genius at is figuring out what the team does well and then using that to get the most out of the team. I would predict that he gets it figured out.
