We are putting Bruce Weber in a terrible position next year. We only have the fifth most returning experience in the conference, and I think most people would agree that we need to finish solidly in the top half of the league for Weber to retain his job. That matters because most of those schools with more experience returning also have better recruiting classes than we do going into next year as well. Nothing about this season has shown that we have the ability to win close games or games on the road. So, somehow Bruce is supposed to make a sizable leap forward next year. If the team is not on track for that early on in conference play, this team will absolutely quit on him. Not only is it what most teams that encounter adversity do with a lame duck coach, but his last team at Illinois quit in epic fashion when it was obvious they weren't good enough to save his job. The young guys will start focusing on whether they are going to stay or not and it will cause a rift in the locker room with the older guys. Bruce Weber was a GIANT embarrassment down the stretch for Illinois when he knew it was over. If you think Bruce can be immature now, just wait until he knows that he's about to be canned. Trust me guys, none of us want what's coming. I'd encourage those that have sway with the athletic department to voice their concerns. Next year has the chance to be incredibly ugly for our basketball program. Making a clean break now is the best thing for the program moving forward. Allow these young kids a chance to improve under a coach that can have them for the next three years.
