Went to my first home basketball game last night since last year's season. Following are some random thoughts without looking up stats:
The crowd was pathetic - estimate around 4,000 to 4,500. I understand the students were gone, but come on people.
Our bigs are not good (I don't count Wade as a big, as I'm old school). Speaking of Wade, he was a factor early in the game and then went ghost until the end. Earth to Dean, come in Dean.
We don't know how to box out - poor coaching. OSU had at least 8 offensive rebounds the first half. Can we put a butt on someone when the ball is in the air, or is that illegal for us to do so?
Our free throw shooting was at a 7th grade girls level until the last five minutes of the game. OSU was lights out and it kept them in the game - coaching?
We began the game getting the ball inside and then, for some unknown reason, stopped. Went to one-on-one ball (I think you kids call that Hero Ball?) without running plays - coaching? Thank heavens Brown had the game of his life.
We got beat down court repeatedly - really, can we get back after we make or miss a shot? We used to call it hustle, not sure what it is called these days.
I don't understand yet why we pulled the redshirt on McGurl?
Why is Diarra pronounced Jara? Would you call a guy named Dan, Jan? Or Dean, Jean? By the way, Diarra is very athletic and played a really good game. I didn't see as big of a drop off as expected with Feast or Fam Cam out.
Weber is a piece of work. He is constantly yelling at the players during play, trying to direct each of them to spots on the court. Maybe he thinks he is coaching 7th grade girls and he is pleased with our free throw percentage?
Overall, it's an L in the column of life and I'll take it. Unfortunately, I think the squawks will own us in Lowrents this Saturday and we won't be winning many more conference games.
Tidbit #1 - Dickey/Coleman = Co-Offensive Coordinators (sorry, you say tomato I say toemato)
Tidbit #2 - Cam has a broken foot and they are hoping he will be back for the Big 12 Tournament
Tidbit #3 - I'm not a Weber fan
Tidbit #4 - KU still sucks (you too Spooky, or is it Jooky?)
