Multiple sources have indicated that when spring practice opens tomorrow, expect Blake Seiler to be handling the linebacker coaching duties left by Mike Cox.
Whether this is a temporary move or something more longterm is yet to be seen.
For K-State, this is a good scenario for immediate needs. Thanks to the maturity and development of Taylor Godinet, defensive quality control and assistant recruiting director, and the new addition of Travis Britz, who returns as the replacement for former defensive graduate assistant Ross Metheny (who, it appears, is now coaching tight ends at South Alabama), the veteran staff feels comfortable letting those two oversee the defensive ends in Seiler's absence from the group this month.
*Side note: Stanton Weber may also be a new face on the coaching staff when the time comes to update the 2017 roster page*
Again, what happens after spring, we aren't sure yet. I'd consider this a dress rehearsal/interview for someone like Godinet. If that doesn't meet expectations or if someone more qualified/experienced emerges from outside, this current move with Seiler provides the luxury of Snyder having more time to potentially seek out defensive assistants early this summer before fall camp opens.
Seiler gets added experience at a new position. Godinet gets his feet wet handling a position group himself. Snyder gets more time to evaluate any and all options before deciding on the best solution. It's a win-win all around... unless of course you're at your limit with K-State coaching drama,
, in which case this will now roll on for at least a few more weeks/months!
