- There are four official visitors on campus this weekend and they are defensive end Kirmari Gainous, cornerback Justin Gardner, defensive tackle Derick Newton and offensive tackle Witt Mitchum. Yes, that exempts offensive tackle Zeke Powell. I'm told that he didn't fulfill some classroom stuff to be able to be a mid-year signee. Them's the breaks with junior college targets.
I don't know what the next step is at offensive tackle. They really needed an addition with experience in Manhattan for spring football. Either they scramble and still find one before classes resume in January (like they did with James Gilbert last year) or they miss out on filling that void until later in the year.
- I do think they will land Gainous and Newton. They probably will land Gardner but he's a newer target so let's see what happens, first.
- With Witt Mitchum, it's all about convincing him to sign in December. He'll have plenty of options that he can take it into February if he wants. Kansas State needs it this week.
- Tee Denson will make his college choice after his game on Saturday. As I wrote in this morning's notebook, the word is that he is struggling between Kansas State and Purdue. Virginia Tech was once considered a contender but fell out because they lost their DB coach. However, I've gotten the impression they felt that K-State was in the lead. The Boilermakers are without a defensive coordinator right now. They had co-coordinators last year but the guy running the show was relieved of his duties. However, it does sound like they are telling recruits that Poindexter will be promoted and be their DC so that is likely not to have much of an impact on his decision since they are clearing it up and hiring someone from in-house.
I don't think any of the schools have been informed of his decision at this time.
