I'm a little annoyed at Marcus right now. I love that he's on the show and I love his football takes. But I feel that he's missing the mark on Bruce.
During the show there was a discussion about what Bruce says to the media versus what he says to his players. It was surrounding the twitter activity of players at the end of the season where they said they decided to turn it on. Marcus, do you really think Bruce is hard on his players when the cameras aren't on? Given everything we know about him I find that an awfully hard position to defend. Let's talk about what we know.
1) Frank's leaders leave and two years later the roster is blown up because of a players attitude and consequently his coach's inability to control that attitude.
2) The team has lacked leadership for several years. I question who is at fault for that?
3) Bruce during games does not appear to really get all that mad at his players. He yells "believe in yourself" and crap like that.
4) Bruce throws his players under the bus quite frequently for "not doing what he asks them to do".
I'm sure there is more than what I am listing, but all evidence is to the contrary that he is hard on his players.
For point number 1 it's been talked about exhaustively. For 2 I can only point to Bill and note that he has built infrastructure that forces his players to become leaders. Bruce has not even come close on that front. For 3 I have some real problems about the development of Dean Wade and I think it's the passive believe in yourself stuff that Bruce is trying to do. The kid needs some hard love. Can't afford to have him on the court if he's not going to be alpha dog. For 4...well that is well documented too. If Bill's players don't listen to their coaches then they don't see the field. If Bruce's players are listening to him then why are they playing?
Anywho...don't know if Marcus has an account. Not trying to talk smack behind is back I just do not agree with his take on Bruce.
