Doing some digging into Sloan's past and learned a couple things reading an old Rivals national story.
One, he was at one point in the Rivals150, likely falling out when his grades/transcript issues popped up and forced things to go the route they did.
Two, the story references him playing a big AAU game against another major recruit:
There isn't a better way to start off the day than a battle between Rivals150 point guards Markell Johnson and David Sloan, and that's what the masses got in a 16U Super Showcase matchup between King James Shooting Stars and the Louisville Magic. Both point guards faced off against each other on numerous occasions, with Sloan and his Magic team winning the overall battle. Sloan slashed to the basket at will and consistently finished around the basket, scoring 17 points and preserving a 61-54 win.
It's just one game, but for whatever it's worth the other player referenced here was a four-star recruit by Rivals and in ESPN's Top 50 for that class and will be going into his third year as a starter at N.C. State. He was their second leading scorer last season.
