ours started that one thing you can always count on when you're installing that bright new shiny water heater, the imminent leak. i will be replacing a 40 gallon propane, so i go to a couple of local stores that sell water heaters and find they sell for 600...and the salesman says they only last about five or six years now. 600 isn't going to wipe anyone out but it pissed me off that they only last 5 years now. i saw on craigslist that there's a warehouse in st joe that sells scratch and dent rheem 40 galllon water heaters for 225. just for the principle, i'm willing to drive 60 miles to save 400. not sure what the scratch and dent entails but will find out
