Good article on Mack Brown from ESPN yesterday. Seems like he could be doing something special at North Carolina.

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...cruiting-coaches-top-prospects-north-carolina

Talks about him not having fun anymore after 2009 NC loss at Texas "The wins were a relief and the losses were devastating" Vowed to have more fun coaching this time around.

During his 5 year break as an analyst for ESPN he got to see a lot of new ideas in coaching. He didn't want to get the "old band" back together he wanted something new. Wanted to model his offense after Lincoln Riley's at OU "Air Raid that could run".

The article talked about how he is able to lure in the recruits and coaches he wants because he is caring and genuine. Seems to be working for his three recruiting classes:

2019: 31st in the country
2020: 16th in the country
2021: currently 8th in the country

The first two classes were pretty on par with typical UNC classes, but this year they have 16 committed already with 7 four stars. Oh and 15 of those 16 are from North Carolina, 10 out of the top 20 in the state for 2021 are committed to play at UNC.

UNC went 3-9 and 2-9 the two years before Mack Brown, they went 7-6 last year and this year they are predicted to compete for 2nd in the ACC.

This hire was compared to KU's hire of Les Miles (two retired national champion head coaches going to basketball schools in the same year) The difference is Mack isn't an idiot (UNC being located in a recruiting hotbed helps)
