K-State freshman forward Malek Harris will likely be missing some time this offseason. In an one-on-one interview, the 6-foot-8, 215-pounder told me he will have surgery on his right shoulder this offseason. He didn't get into the extent of it or the timetable of his return, but he did say, "I'll be back and I know I'll be ready and better next year." He missed some time at the beginning of the year with a shoulder injury, too.

"I know I got a lot of work to do in the offseason. I'm just going to focus on that," Harris said. "The way I play. Just everything. Shooting, finishing at the rim. I'm going to have to get shoulder surgery so I'm going to have to do that and get healthy."

A Rivals150 player coming out of high school, Harris averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game. He played in 27 games. Harris missed the opening two contests (Southern Utah and UMKC) with a shoulder injury and missed three games in February after being suspended for a violation of team rules.

With senior Nino Williams in foul trouble in the 67-65 loss to TCU in the Big 12 Tournament this past Wednesday, Harris registered one of his better games of the season, connecting on 4 of 5 shots for 10 points and grabbed two rebounds in 17 minutes.

"It was overall a fun experience," Harris said of his first campaign with the Wildcats. "I don't think I played how I could have played. I don't think I played to my best ability. But, just got to look forward and keep working. I had fun playing with these guys. I love all of these dudes. I wouldn't take this team back for anything."
