As was mentioned by many when the Iran nuclear deal was being announced (and as was discussed on this board), opening up dialogue and trade with Iran when a moderate was in power was key to starting to change the country. Had the deal been scuttled - as conservatives in the Republican party and Iran wanted - it would have been a significant blow to the moderate Iranian leader. Well, lo and behold the deal was struck and now the elections have been completed and it is looking like moderates had a sweeping victory helping to marginalize hard-line conservatives in Iran. This isn't obviously a one-to-one direct consequence, but it helped create a positive air leading to the moderates success.
Yet further evidence that the right wing (US) view of isolating enemies and using only military might are simplistic and often ineffective tools. Complex problems require more complex strategies. Glad to see GOP conservatives not get their wish and attack Iran or scuttle the talks thereby securing, most likely, a win for the Ayatollah.
