Football Most likely outcome for rest of Big 12 (7/26/2021)

Just going to post the latest things I have been told.

1) Sources from two different leagues made sure to note not to expect immediate ripple effects from Texas and Oklahoma informing the Big 12 that they would not extend their rights and instead depart the league. There are a lot of moving parts and some big chess moves that will probably be attempted, most notably by the Big Ten in terms of trying to make a splash in response to the SEC. As they are in danger of getting left behind from a PR/Reputation/Financial standpoint, too. ACC schools aren't an option and KU/Iowa State not lucrative enough. Would mean taking the big boys from the P12. Lot of issues/difficulty in doing so, though, and FOX is involved. Business/television people think it is more realistic than football/university folks.

2) They also said to remember the first round of realignment. It took four years to be complete. Now, I don't think it would take that long in this case, but it is a reminder to not expect a response tomorrow, this week, or even in a month. With that being said, my spidey senses still tell me this is the last year of Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12.

3) Sources at a handful of the remaining Big 12 programs continue to tell me that the most likely outcome is for all eight schools to stick together for the remainder of the rights deal, which doesn't expire until 2025. With that, an expectation would be to replace the outgoing two with four schools and have it be 12 programs. That's a bit of a surprise to me since it would mean slicing the revenue 12 different ways, but maybe there's an argument that increased inventory would be the compromise to leave the television deal intact for the rest of the rights agreement and not be triggered into a renegotiation.

4) That would also consist of buyout money from Texas and Oklahoma, of course. The four schools I continue to hear the most about as possibilities are Houston, Memphis, UCF and Cincinnati. Nobody really mentions BYU, fwiw.

5) Did have a source share that Myers and Gene did speak with large donors on Friday about the situation and conversations and contingency plans are ongoing.

EDIT: Adding bulletin #6

6) Already shared this in a prior update but wanted to share again. The projection for a new TV deal would be around $20M per year. They get close to $40M right now.
