Mountain Lion and Bear Safety

Having recently moved to the Pacific Northwest, I am VERY worried about Mountain Lions or Bears getting through the 2 miles of suburbs undetected to make it into my small yard. I think it may be vitally important that I have something with the takedown power to protect my puppies. Although extremely proficient in taking out vermin: https://kansasstate.forums.rivals.c...f-animal-sanctuary.124136/page-2#post-2575254, I do not think my husky can take down a bear without taking some sort of injury. I would think a lever action is the simple answer here, but I am open to suggestions. I don't want to rely on my 5.56 M4 or the Mosin with a bayonet that hasn't been fired in 50 years.
