Well Saturday sucked & we all know it did!!! We can talk about the game all day, but it won't do any good. There isn't anything that hasn't been said either by me, or anyone else on here a dozen times. The biggest question is what happens going forward?
1. I really think that this needs to be Snyder's last season. Look, I love him as much as anyone else does, but It is his time to move on. For nothing else than his complete refusal to fire an assistant coach that needs it. About the only thing that I can remotely remember Snyder doing is convincing Ron Hudson to take the Kentucky OC position years ago. At least I think it was Kentucky. I think that it is glaringly obvious that Snyder doesn't run the offense anymore. If he did, I truly don't believe that we would have the issues that KSU had on Saturday. When Dusty Dvoracek is calling you out on national t.v. then you know it's bad. Unfortunately Snyder let his assistant coaches take him down in 2004 & 2005. It's going to happen again in 2015 & 2016. KSU still has a chance to go 6-6 and possibly 7-5 but that's more of the Big 12 being really BAD rather than KSU being good.
Getting back to Snyder moving on. By his refusal to retire or announce a retirement day, he's hamstringing the program. KSU is stuck with the assistant coaches that they have because there isn't a decent offensive coach out there that would leave their current job & move to Manhattan when they know that Snyder could retire in 2 - 4 months. So, KSU is stuck with their very poor coordinators. After Dimel's refusal to abandon the "Wildcat" last year, I jumped off of his bandwagon as a replacement for Snyder. Saturday's game just reinforced that & I truly believe that he basically screwed himself in the future to get the KSU job.
We don't have to look any further than to UT & LSU for changes. For GAWD's SAKE, LSU fired Miles after he won 75% of his games in Baton Rouge because of the way they ended last season & started this season. Why? Because they demand better!!! Charlie Strong just demoted his D-Coordinator after they gave up another 40+ points on defense. Hell, Brian Kelly fired his D-coordinator after their 3rd game of the year. Why? Because their fans & Kelly demanded better. So then why don't we as KSU fans? Why don't we demand more from Snyder and his assistants. Is it because Snyder knows that he would never be fired at KSU? Maybe.
I'm not saying that Snyder needs to be fired. But John Currie needs to have a LOOOOONG talk with Snyder & Snyder should realize that it is time for he & KSU to move on from each other. What Snyder accomplished at KSU will never be forgotten. Look, I'm 40 years old & I grew up 20 minutes N.E. of Topeka. I can remember back in the 80's that whoever won the KSU/KU game, it would probably be their only win of the year. But as a season ticket holder for 20 years, Ahearn member & Alumni Life time member, I demand more. Saturday was an embarrassment & unfortunately things like that are becoming the norm, not the exception.
What I would really like to happen, is for Snyder to announce his retirement much like Frank Beamer (Snyder's good friend) did last year. It gave VTech a year of publicity on ESPN, he was able to get the recognition every single game from the opposing coaches, fans & the announcers. But also, because it would give Currie a full year to get someone hired. This much time would then give the new coach plenty of time to get his assistants hired, recruits/commits contacted & KSU's recruiting really shouldn't fall off much.
Any way, those are my thoughts.
