Liked that this was not a true neutral floor. I am still concerned that we don't have but one true road game in the non-conference this year although the Colorado State game will be a semi-road game. I'm glad this game turned out to be perhaps another semi-road game. We needed to have 2-3 true road games and a couple of neutral floor games to get ready for the Big XII. This at least approximated one to some degree.
I liked what I saw from Brown and Stokes and even Maurice in this game.
I also liked that Sneed continues to come out with some energy in a game like this.
At the end of the day, this was mostly about Iwundu and Johnson though and they both showed up big time tonight (barring the 2 FTs at the end of the game that Wes had a chance to make that he didn't).
How about Stokes hitting 3 HUGE 3s in that game
And even Brown doing what he did against BC, hitting some shots to keep it close when no one else was stroking it from outside.
All in all, a solid performance and perhaps the next step for this team.
They must learn to win games like this though and our inside defense ultimately cost us this game (not the missed FT at the end). We gave up FAR TOO MANY LAYUPS! That was poor communication, poor rotation, and a lack of alertness. Heck, one time DJ had a point blank layup, got it blocked, jogged down the court thinking about it as the big man for Maryland ran right by him and got an easy layup at the other end of the floor. I know DJ recognized the mistake that he made, but nevertheless he made it and he's a senior.
The late travel call on Wes was a good call and if he hadn't traveled, he dishes to DJ for another layup. Just too many mistakes and most of them by the seniors who had carried us the entire game on offense.
The last thing that I'll mention is Dean Wade. Dean just isn't giving us anything now. That simply cannot continue. Dean must give us rebounding, he must give us defense, and he must give us 8 points per game. If he can't, Sneed needs to be on the floor.
I also am getting extremely frustrated that HCBW feels the need when he gets close to the competition to call a timeout right before a 12 minute officials timeout. Hold onto THOSE timeouts. That was a complete waste that resulted in no points, a foul on K-State under Maryland's basket allowing them on the 12 minute timeout to set up an out of bounds play UNDER THEIR BASKET! And that, my friends is why you don't waste that timeout.
I like almost all of what we are doing as a team but we absolutely have to clean these things up.
