GoPowercat.com has verified that veteran college defensive ends coach Jon Fabris is returning to Kansas State after spending the last 16 seasons on the staff at Georgia and others schools. Fabric served on Coach Bill Snyder’s 1997 and 1998 teams, also mentoring some of the program’s special team units during his tenure.

Kansas State has not made an official announcement of Fabris’ hiring. News of Fabris' hiring was first reported on Twitter, but GPC has independently verified the information.

Linebackers coach Mike Cox recently left the K-State program, creating an opening on the defensive coaching staff. Current K-State defensive ends coach Blake Seiler is expected to be named the linebackers coach and Fabris, 60, will mentor the defensive ends.

Fabris' 1998 K-State punt return unit led the country (21.3 avg.), returning five punts for touchdowns and became the first school in NCAA history to return a punt for a touchdown in three straight games. Fabris also helped the Wildcats finish third in the nation in net punting (40.6 avg.) and 17th nationally in kickoff returns (23.1 avg.). In 1997, the Kansas State punt return unit finished 13th nationally at 13.0 yards per return.
