Defending 6A champion Derby is now going to play at defending 5A champion Mill Valley on week one of the season. Derby's game at Newcastle, OK and Mill Valley's game at Gardner-Edgerton were cancelled due to coronavirus.
Head coach Brandon Clark at Derby and Joel Applebee at Mill Valley are first cousins. The two programs haven't played since 2014 and 2015. Derby won in 2014, 35-14 and Mill Valley won the following year 27-20. Derby has only lost one regular season game since.
