I just talked to Gary Patterson for about 10 min while he was recruiting at the high school where I coach at. I have to say he came across as a really nice guy - definitely didn’t need to take time to talk to me (I coach golf). To summarize:
Recruiting - says he always leaves the door open when talking to a recruit and makes sure someone is with him. Said that’s one of the reasons why he’s been in the business for 20 years and has been able to stay at the same place.
KSU - I told him that we would have loved to have had him a few years back. He just laughed (assistant that was with him said - “you kidding? No way we would want to be stuck out there”). Said he had all the respect in the world for Snyder and what he had done and what a genuinely good person he was - but he just couldn’t understand why he was still coaching. Said there just has to be more than life than football and he hoped Snyder would take some time to enjoy his family.
Coaching in general - said he has been at TCU for 20 years and it was home for him. Made it sound like he wanted to be there until he is finished. Also said there was no way in hell his wife would let him coach until he was in his 70s.
Anyway, not your typical Tuesday morning. Thought I would share.
