as long as Currie is hiring the replacement. If he's clueless enough to hire Weber in the first place, there's no reason to believe he'd have any clue who to hire the 2nd time around. Weber is a coach who wouldn't even be considered - under any circumstance - by a winning AD. He'd be very quickly put on the "don't hire no matter what" list. So it's not "kind of" a bad hire, or a gray area hire, or a "wait and see" hire, or anything like that. The hire was a huge, Titanic-sized, flashing neon sign that said "wow, this AD is a moron".
Having said that, not sure why people are wetting their pants about this season so far. Did they expect better than 6-12 or so from a team with 10 newcomers - the best of which are true FR? We're about where I expected us to be - maybe one game better in OOC play than I expected and one game behind where I expected in conference play.
We're rebuilding and starting from scratch to some extent. If you're going to get excited about our future (and I'd advise against it because Weber is the coach), you should be looking a year or two out. Of course, it's ridiculous that we're starting over this far into Weber's tenure, but hey, Weber is our coach so this certainly wasn't unexpected at all. He could go to the NIT this season, go to the NCAA next season, and then have another mass exodus and start all over again. He's never, ever proven that he can in any way build and maintain a competitive roster or team.
Currie has done a nice job driving through a wave of facilities upgrades but we're about done with those. We really need him to move on so we can bring in an AD who is all about supporting his coaches, staying out of the way, and winning. Maybe Laird Veatch? Is he that kind of guy? He's obviously a program guy and KSU guy.
