KSU played by far their worst game of the year on Saturday, but I’m not ready to write off the season. KSU will not beat OU or OSU, but every other game after that is very winnable. Obviously this all has to do with which KSU team shows up. If it is the KSU team that played UT, then KSU can beat WVU, TTech, ISU & KU. This would still be a disappointing season, but 7- 5 (8 – 5 with a bowl win) would be a decent season.
KSU’s offense was really clicking against UT, but the defense let them down. But look at how well that UT offense played the very next week against OU. UT is for real!! They are a good team. This past week, KSU’s defense played pretty well. Definitely well enough to win the game. They held TCU to 26 points & that is usually enough to win a game, especially in the Big 12.
What they need, I really believe is for Ertz to get healthy. I think that this team plays better with Ertz in the game. Not just because he’s better than Delton, but because they seem to trust Ertz more.
TTech doesn’t play any defense. They can still score a bunch of points & this is where KSU will struggle against them. What they have to do is match them TD for TD. Not FG for TD. Get a couple of turnovers or stops & they can win the game.
WVU & ISU are at home. That should help (didn’t against TCU) but TCU is a legitimate playoff contender, so there’s no shame in losing to them. WVU’s big weapon is there stud WR Stills (I think that’s his name). But their defense is giving up a bunch of points.
ISU ALWAYS plays KSU tough. I don’t know what it is about this game, but it always seems to come down to the last possession. ISU is a better team this year & they did beat OU. But, OU had no business losing that game… But, they still did. ISU played KU after the OU game at home. So they didn’t have as much of a worry about a “letdown”.
Then there’s the KU game. KSU should have no problems winning this game. I say “should”, but that is still why they play the game.
All of this is dependent on Ertz getting healthy, or as close to healthy as he can. Also, the coaches need to call plays to protect him & keep him healthy
