The 3 quarter offensive narrative floating around is wildly inaccurate.

A thread from @GeneDelaware who seems like a pretty sharp football guy cited the conservative play-calling as the problem.

44% of the plays in our first 3 drives of the 2nd half were passes

Too many people seemed to believe the false narrative from the announcers. IT WAS BRANDO AND TILMAN and still, people believed them. That's odd. They suck at their job and people still believed them.

Brando "Kansas State has been very conservative here for the first 2 drives" and Tilman followed with "right now they're just running the ball up the middle.

1st DriveDuece A Gap run- 4 ydsThrow to Jax in the flat- 4 ydsDuece A gap (3rd and 2) no gain
2nd Drive (started with 5 yd motion)Deep shot along left sideline to Brooks - incompleteQB read for no gain3rd and 14 pass to Taylor dropped well short of sticks
3rd DriveTrotter a gap 1 ydSwing pass to Duece 6 ydsHoward keep for no gain

That sums to
RB into the A gap: 3
QB keeps: 2
Passes to WR: 2
Passes to RB/FB: 2

We failed to execute, but Mess didn't crawl into a shell of conservatism any moreso than the successful drives the rest of the game. The first drive of the 4th quarter was very similar play calls that were run correctly and we stopped trying to pass and moved the ball
