“We are always trying to create balance. It has always been my priority and my belief to value balance. It is significant for us. We are most successful when we have balance in our offense. We can be equally as effective with the run and the pass and we can use them interchangeably. I remember going through one season we had less than (60) yards difference in total run offense and total pass offense. That is the type of offense we would like to have." - Bill Snyder

“You don’t always get there and you don’t always reach it, but you are devoted to having that kind of balance. It is so important to us.” - Bill Snyder

The quotes above were taken from a KCstar from August 29, 2015.

Bill Snyder values having a "balanced" offense. Our issue is trying to establish balance when we have a running game that is average and a passing attack that struggles to complete balls. How do you call plays when this is what you are working with and you have a HC that values balance and time of possession?

I looked up the stats and right now our play calling is 63% run and 37% pass. We are not as pass happy as some posters would have you believe. Only nine P5 teams throw the ball a lower percentage of the time (Ga Tech, LSU, BC, Texas, Auburn, Stanford, Oregon, Pitt, and Northwestern).

Our issue is that it is hard to be balanced when you struggle to complete 45% of your passes and you only average 3.8 yards per carry on the ground. When that is what you are working with, when do you throw? If we had a powerful running game you could throw on first down and still feel you have a good chance to get a first on the ground if it is incomplete. Same thing if it is second and medium distance. We do not have a strong running game so an incomplete pass throws us off schedule and makes moving the chains a difficult task.

I have been critical of Dimel and the play calling the last couple of weeks, but it is a difficult task that he has in front of him. I question the timing of some of our passing attempts, but you have to try to throw sometime if you want any balance (which Snyder wants).

As bad as our passing game has been, I don't think the coaches are going to abandon it completely.
