Wow, what a difference it makes having experienced, talented guards combined with solid coaching. Evans and Forte are just so terrific and while Hammonds and Carroll are players too, it is Evans talent that makes them look even better than they are. I think one of the huge advantages for us on Tuesday was having a senior guard in Wes (big also) who was not mistake-prone (rare this season). He made everyone else better and senior guards USUALLY don't get as rattled. Stokes made some early mistakes esp. in the first half that I'd hope he doesn't make a year from now. Barry Brown has just been handling the ball so much better in recent weeks even when Stokes and Wes haven't.
Tonight our guards must show up and be steady in handling ball pressure and making good decisions off of the bounce. That will mostly be Wes and Kamau but will occasionally be Ervin who is sometimes prone to mistakes when he gets sped up. If those 3 play smart, I think we'll be okay. This game will not be about, "if our shots are falling". I see this being about making good decisions. Of course, that may be our biggest downfall this year. Let's hope we play like OSU's guards are today so far....smart.
