Opinion on NCAA Tourney play-in games

Just curious what everyone thinks. If you're one of the teams in the play-in games and lose, does that still mean you made the tourney? Or, do you have to win that one and be a part of the field of 64 to actually be considered "in" the tourney. I've always been of the opinion that you had to win and be in the field of 64 to be considered in the tourney. Thoughts?
