I have always let my wife handle the tags/taxes/insurance for my business, and this year she told me I need to look in to whether or not my service trucks need to have a commercial vehicle tag.
I do know, when I first started my business, I asked about having to get a DOT number/certification, and they told me that vehicles involved in the construction industry were exempt. That was 15 years ago...now, I'm not so sure.
I have sort of looked into it, and it seems that I need to have commercial vehicle tags, but I don't know if that changes the taxes, when the tags are due, whether or not my employees need to get a CDL to drive a commercial vehicle...even all of them are under the pre-set weight limit.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm heading to the county offices toward the end of this week, and I want to be prepared. I hate having to return...then wait. Again.
