So I came on here awhile back and asked a few lab questions about my dog and my first vet giving steroid shots and pills. Dog was lethargic, wasn't himself, eating half his food. Dog wasn't getting better. To make a long story short I took my lab to another vet and he did bloodwork. All tests negative, no heart worm, everything normal, no fever, dog 95 lbs,
Breathing normal, outside appearance normal but not acting normal. Vet put him on doxycycline hyclate and sent him home. Thought maybe he had a tick illness but wasn't really sure. Middle of cycle of pills, he stopped eating everything, might have a piece of lunch meat everyday but that's it. Very lethargic, paces around, puts his nose against side of house and acts like he's falling asleep standing up. At night I watch him,he shakes a bit, acts uncomfortable, looks like sleep tremors. Last night I swear he was looking at me while I was talking to him and he blinked his left eye at me about 20 times in a row. In the morning he may jog out to his kennel to eat but then won't eat. Won't take pills, pills werent helping anyway. Vet said next thing to do was X-rays but that he would be going in blindly. Lab is 9 1/2 years old. I'm guessing since vet visit he has dropped 10 lbs. at this point what do I do? Is it time to give up and get rid of his pain? I understand labs don't live forever, this dog was my hunting partner for last 9 straight years and I don't want him to suffer anymore.
If a vet told me he had cancer or was dieing I would put him down, I don't want to put him through treatment at 9.5 years just to push out another year or 2 for my own selfishness. Advice? Hope? Anything?
